Camps Bay Blinds

Camps Bay

About the Camps Bay blinds and exterior shading service

Camps Bay is a suburb built around a view, and that view is the problem. Houses of concrete, glass and steel step down the slope below the Twelve Apostles, most of them turned west and north-west to the sunset, carrying far more glass than an ordinary suburb ever has to dress. This service measures, makes and fits shading for that glass, specified for salt, glare and the south-easter rather than lifted from a catalogue.

Made for glass that faces the Atlantic head-on

Three local forces shape every specification here, and they rarely act alone. The light: a west and north-west aspect that takes the low afternoon sun plus the glare bouncing off open water, under a summer UV that regularly reaches the extreme band. The salt: airborne chloride that eats cheap brackets, chains and cassettes far faster than it would a kilometre inland. The wind: the summer south-easter funnelling off the mountain onto anything left open on a terrace. One approach across the whole house gets most of it wrong, because north glass, west glass and the deck each face a different enemy.

The range is set out as twelve chapters: roller blinds in blockout, sunscreen and double day and night fabric, day and night band blinds, powder-coated aluminium venetians, cellular honeycomb, vertical and panel blinds for sliding walls, concealed and recessed blinds in a ceiling slot, skylight and shaped-window blinds held flat on an angle, motorisation with sun and wind sensors, and the external tier this service leads with on a west elevation: external venetians, shading roller shutters and zip screens, alongside folding-arm awnings for the deck. Every one of them is built for one specific opening in one specific house.

Camps Bay and the seaboard on either side

Clifton sits one headland north, built on stairs, nearly everything aimed due west at the sunset and calmer in the south-easter than our beach, though not sheltered from the salt. Bantry Bay is cliffside apartment blocks with wrap-around glass balconies and body corporates that govern the shared facade. Fresnaye is the quieter hillside above it, where older houses are extended in phases with far more glass than they started with. Llandudno lies just over Suikerbossie, a low-rise beach village with some of the most spray-exposed positions on the peninsula and a single access road. Each gets the same measure, with the hardware grade matched to its exposure.

How a job runs

You enquire by chat or by form, telling us the rooms, the product interest and how exposed the glass is to sun, wind or salt. One of our expert consultants will contact you shortly to set up a free in-home measure. On site each opening is measured properly with samples in hand, the hardware specification is checked against your position on the seaboard, the fixing substrate and reveal depth are confirmed, and fabric and control are decided window by window. Where a van can stand and how a tall glass wall is reached safely is settled then, not on installation day.

A written quote comes back itemised per window with every option listed and the lead time for your specific job, so nothing is verbal and nothing surprises you later. On approval each blind is made to those sizes and hung by the fitting team, levelled, tested and shown to you working before they leave. If you would like a sense of scale first, the ballpark tool in the Playbook takes rough sizes and returns a budget range by the next working day; it commits you to nothing and the measure is the route we would still point you to.

What we will not pretend

Quotes are never given sight unseen over the phone; every figure is confirmed in writing after the measure. Our roller shutters are shading products, stopping sun, heat and glare on the face of the glass, and carry no security rating; a security-rated product is a different thing we can quote on request. An awning is a shade product, not a rain product, and an awning caught open in a strong south-easter can be destroyed, which is why a wind rating and an automatic retraction sensor are not optional on an exposed deck. No coastal hardware is fit-and-forget: marine-spec fittings still want a fresh-water wipe-down this close to the ocean.

We also do not put the wrong hero on a window. A cellular blind is not a heat-blocker for an unshaded west pane, a blockout across a living-room glass wall throws away the reason the window exists, timber slats do not belong in a damp sea-facing room, and motorisation is for the big, high and hard-to-reach glass rather than every opening. The Playbook puts both sides of each of those trade-offs in writing so you can weigh them before anyone visits.

Getting in touch

The route is the enquiry form on any page or the on-page chat. An enquiry books a free in-home measure and a written per-window quote; it is not a purchase, and enquiries are read and answered by a human consultant rather than an automated booking system. We use what you send only to set up that consultation call-back, nothing else, and POPIA governs how it is stored; details are never shared beyond that. Measure appointments across the seaboard tend to book a week or two ahead, so an early enquiry simply means you get the day you want.
